A few months ago I was in the Print Space or somewhere along Kingsland Road looking at photographs and was taken by this one about a man name Joseph, having a simple tea amongst the hip-gadet-laden-somethings in a cafe – perhaps Jaguar Shoes? (as I sit here on my computer with my mobile phone next to me, talking about the splendor of the simple life. cough. not a cliche. cough)
Regardless, the photo was awesome, I took down the name of a one Martin Usborne, looked up his work and blog online, liked both.. and then lost the slip of paper and my chance to send appreciating regards to this photog (yes, I’m a dork and I shamelessly do that. We all need encouragement, even from strangers, right!?)
So imagine my surprise when I’m at the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize Private View on Tuesday night at the National Portrait Gallery (ps – it was AWESOME! to see my piece in there.. but I’ll write more about that whole experience tomorrow, I’m bragging on someone else’s behalf now.. wow, artists really can make for bad self-PR reps sometimes, huh).. but I’m standing in front of this piece I really like (as seen above) when lo and behold, I recognize the name…
I end up chatting with another photog in the show about how he found out he and good ol’ Martin went to Uni and have many mutual friends, and their finally meeting and.. “oh, isn’t his blog funny?”
It actually is. very funny. But don’t trust me, check it out for yourself, and report back.
Oh, and to make up for the bad self-PR.. I’m having an opening-celebration party at The Book Club on Leonard St. in London, Friday the 13th (ooo!) I’ll also have more work showing in the space as well. More details to come asap. Shoot me an email if you want to come/be on the guest list.
